Prior Knowledge:
Teacher places one letter from the ACRONYM (LGBTI) under each learner’s chair.
Learners are asked to remove the letter from under their chair. All learners with the same letter will group together as a group.
They will do a brainstorming activity by looking at what the letter stands for and mention a few characteristics of the identified gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation. Feedback presented to class.
Specific Aims/ Objectives:
At the end of the lesson the learners should be able to:
Knowledge: Distinguish and explain each letter of the acronym, LGBTI.
Skills: Positively engage with LGBTI identifying people. Apply tolerance in respect to real life situations pertaining to LGBTI identities.
Values: Establish and enhance tolerance and accept ance for how diverse persons identify with gender and sexuality.
What learners should learn?
The definitions of each letter of the acronym, LGBTI. Have an understanding of the challenges LGBTI learners have at school and to become more tolerant and accepting of the LGBTI community.
How learners will create evidence:
Learners have to watch a short video of a person who identifies as trans and gender diverse.
They will have to identify the gender identity, gender expression and/or sexual orientation of the person and write a short essay.
Based on the knowledge gained to justify their choices. They should also make some suggestions on what can be done at school to alleviate discrimi nation and bullying of LGBTI individuals.
Design a poster depicting rules for the classroom.
